Bollywood Yorkie: A Giant Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding

What happens when a British Sunday dinner legend meets the warm spices of an Indian-inspired feast? This sounds like a dodgy punchline to a joke, but we promise it’s not!

You get an incredible Bollywood Yorkie!

This giant Yorkshire pudding is golden, crisp and dramatically puffed around the edges, then loaded with spiced pulled lamb or chicken, peppers, onions and paneer. Finish it with chilli, coriander and crunchy poppadom shards before getting stuck into a creamy homemade tikka sauce made with Harrisons Tomato Ketchup and Mayonnaise.

If you've been searching for Yorkshire pudding filling ideas that go beyond the traditional roast dinner, this one's about to take your Yorkie somewhere completely different.

A Very British Yorkie Meets Indian-Inspired Spice

Yorkshire pudding is about as British as dinner gets. Traditionally made from a simple batter of flour, eggs and milk, its magic happens when that batter hits screaming-hot fat: steam helps the batter rise while the outside turns beautifully golden and crisp.

For our Bollywood Yorkie, we're keeping everything that makes a Yorkshire pudding great – but giving the batter a spicy little plot twist.

Garam masala, turmeric, cumin and chilli powder go into the mix, resulting in a clash of cultures in the best possible way: classic British comfort food meets the warm, aromatic flavours of Indian-inspired cooking.

What Can You Put Inside a Giant Yorkshire Pudding?

Once you've got that crisp, golden Yorkie, it effectively becomes an edible bowl ready for whatever you've got planned for dinner.

For this version, we're piling in cooked spiced pulled lamb or chicken, peppers, onions and paneer, then finishing everything with fresh coriander, chilli, lime and optional poppadom shards for extra crunch.

But if this recipe gets you thinking, there are plenty of other stuffed Yorkshire pudding ideas to try:

  • Pulled beef, caramelised onions and gravy

  • Roast chicken, stuffing and cranberry sauce

  • Sausages, mash and onion gravy

  • Chilli con carne and melted cheese

  • Pulled pork, BBQ Sauce and slaw

  • Chicken tikka, paneer and peppers

  • Roasted vegetables, cheese and Garlic & Herb Sauce

  • Breakfast Yorkies with sausage, bacon and egg

The Seriously Easy Tikka Sauce

The filling brings plenty of spice, but we'd never send a giant stuffed Yorkie out without sauce.

Harrisons Tomato Ketchup and Mayonnaise make a brilliantly simple base for our tikka sauce, bringing together tomatoey tang and creamy richness. Add warming spices, garlic, ginger and a squeeze of lemon, and you've got one seriously dunkable sauce.

It's also a handy little trick to remember beyond this recipe. Try it with chicken, loaded fries, wraps or as a dip for crispy sides.

Harrisons Bollywood Yorkie Recipe

Servings: 2–4
Cooking time: 45–55 mins

Ingredients

For the Yorkshire:

  • 140g plain flour

  • 4 eggs

  • 200 ml milk

  • 50 ml water

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • ½ tsp turmeric

  • ½ tsp ground cumin

  • Pinch of chilli powder (optional)

  • 1 handful fresh coriander, finely chopped, divided

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil or beef dripping

For the Filling:

  • 200g cooked spiced pulled lamb or chicken (tikka or garam masala style)

  • 100g peppers and onions, diced

  • 100g paneer cheese, cubed

  • Thinly sliced chilli (optional)

  • Lime wedge

  • Crispy poppadom shards (optional)

For the Tikka Sauce:

  • 4 tbsp Harrisons Tomato Ketchup

  • 4 tbsp Harrisons Mayonnaise

  • 1 tsp tandoori masala

  • ½ tsp garam masala

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • ¼ tsp ground cumin

  • ¼ tsp Kashmiri chilli (or mild chilli powder)

  • 1 small garlic clove, grated

  • 1 tsp ginger paste

  • 1–2 tsp lemon juice

  • Pinch of salt

  • Dash of cream to make it richer (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine garam masala, turmeric, cumin, and chilli powder. Set aside.

  2. Whisk together flour, eggs, milk, water, salt, and half the spice mix. Fold in some of the chopped coriander. Let the batter rest for 15–20 minutes - Bollywood stars need a warm-up, and so does your Yorkie.

  3. Preheat your BBQ or oven to 220°C (200°C fan, gas mark 7). Add vegetable oil or dripping to a cast-iron skillet and heat until piping hot.

  4. Pour in the batter and cook for 20–25 minutes, until puffed, golden, crispy, and dramatic.

  5. While the Yorkshire performs its rise, sauté peppers and onions until softened and sweet, add the pulled lamb/chicken and the remaining half of the spice mix. Cook until fragrant and sizzling.

  6. Build the Bollywood tower by adding the meat and veg mix to the hot Yorkshire. Scatter over the paneer cubes and return to the BBQ or oven for 2–3 minutes to let the paneer warm and soften.

  7. Top with the remaining fresh coriander, sliced chilli, and a squeeze of lime.

  8. Add poppadom shards for crunch.

  9. To make the Harrisons Tikka Sauce, add the Harrisons Tomato Ketchup, spices, garlic and ginger to a small pan. Warm gently for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

  10. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly, then stir through the Harrisons Mayonnaise, lemon juice and salt. Add a dash of cream for extra richness (optional).

We'll let you be the judge.

But if your idea of the best Yorkie pudding recipe involves crispy edges, a soft centre, spiced pulled meat, warm paneer, crunchy poppadoms and plenty of creamy tikka sauce for dunking, we'd say it's putting forward a pretty convincing argument.

Whether you're after new Yorkshire pudding dinner ideas, looking for an inventive way to use leftover meat or simply fancy stuffing a giant Yorkshire pudding with something that isn't roast beef and gravy, the Bollywood Yorkie is ready for its close-up.
