We’ve got a secret to tell you. We like sauce!
It’s probably one of the worst kept secrets in the UK by now. But what about the rest of you? What do the UK’s sauce habits look like? Do you have a favourite?
Uber Eats published an extensive report on the UK’s sauce habits last year and although some of the results may feel obvious, others were rather bizarre!
Sauce on the go
We know what we like and we stick to it! A whopping 61% of Britons take sauce with them when they leave the house. Which means, more often than not, your friends also have some sneaky sauce sachets tucked away in their back pockets.
43% of the population believes you should have a condiment with every meal, which explains why so many of us feel the need to keep something saucy with us at all times!
We’ve always advocated for sauce on the go. That’s why all of our sauces are available in sauce sachets. Whether it’s a picnic in the park, office lunchtime or BBQ with the family, our sauce sachets will help you get your saucy fix.
Mayonnaise almost got the crown in 2017
In 2017, Mayonnaise outsold Ketchup for the very first time. The 6.9% increase in sales that year was credited to the variety of healthy alternatives that were released.
And we don’t blame them! There are loads of amazing things you can do with Mayonnaise; there is now even vegan alternatives!
Ketchup will always be king
It can’t come as much of a surprise that Ketchup is the reigning king of condiments. One-fifth of Britons choose to have Ketchup with their meals.
The second-place sauce of choice is our underdog Mayonnaise.
Change of flavour
Our third place and the frankly bizarre choice is sweet chilli, which has risen in popularity over the past few years as Britons have decided to discover new flavours.
Signs of change are beginning to show as curry sauce, and Piri-Piri is now considered staple condiments.
Garlic mayo use is up 11%, and Piri-Piri use is up 10%. Probably down to our love of cheesy pizza and seasoned chicken.
Out with the old
Vinegar, once a staple of fish and chips has officially got bumped down the list. As two-thirds of the population admit that they rarely use it, and a 5th refuse to touch it.
So what does that mean?
We’re playing with new sensations and even experimenting with sauces in our home cooking. Sauces are a staple of almost every meal, and there are a plethora of healthy options available.
As our tastebuds evolve, Harrisons will be here every step of the way, whether its a home-cooked meal or a cheeky takeaway. Our goal is to ensure that you have only the finest sauces to help you make the best meals.
We’re excited to see where the world of food takes us next!
